Connecting with Our Food This Thanksgiving

This week has been an exciting one for us at RAW Food and Goods. As a small business dedicated to delivering all-organic produce to the San Francisco Bay Area, we're always striving to deepen our connection to the land and the people who grow our food.

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of visiting Ferrari Farms in Linden, California to pick up freshly harvested walnuts. Did you know that the vast majority of walnuts consumed in the US come from the Golden State? It's truly remarkable how this region has become the epicenter of walnut production, thanks to its ideal growing conditions.

I also had the chance to visit PT Ranch in Ione, California, where I met Ranch Manager Alejandro and got a firsthand look at the turkeys that will be gracing our Thanksgiving tables next week. It was an honor to see these magnificent birds at various stages of their life cycle, from their first weeks to their final days before processing.

Alejandro shared the ranch's commitment to ethical, humane practices, and I was reminded yet again of the importance of being connected to our food. Not only do the animals give their lives for ours, but so do the many people who make it all possible - the farmers, the ranchers, the processors, and everyone in between.

This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to dig a little deeper into the stories of where your food comes from and how it's produced. Take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into bringing those holiday staples to your table. By doing so, you'll not only enjoy a more meaningful meal, but you'll also be supporting the small businesses and regenerative practices that are shaping the future of our food system.
