1200 Acres of Regeneration
Some places don’t just grow food… they recalibrate you.
This week, I found one of those places at Burroughs Family Farms, a regenerative organic, 1,200-acre farm tucked into the rolling landscape of Merced County near Denair. Rolling hills stretched in every direction, and the sounds of nature created this quiet, almost surreal stillness.
It’s weeks like this that truly blow my mind. California is absolutely loaded with agricultural bliss at every turn, in every season. Mondays and Tuesdays are for deliveries… but Wednesday through Sunday? That’s where the deeper story unfolds. That’s where we go looking for the people and places behind the food.
Wednesday morning, I headed out to meet a family that’s been farming for over 100 years. What makes Burroughs Family Farm even more special is their commitment to Regenerative Organic agriculture. This isn’t just about sustaining land, it’s about restoring it. Building soil. Increasing biodiversity. Letting ecosystems function the way they’re meant to.
I met with family member and farm operator Benina Montes, who gave me an incredible tour of the 1,200 acres her family stewards. Gentle rolling hills stretched in every direction, and the soundscape, wind through grass, birds overhead, distant movement of animals, created a kind of quiet that almost stops time.
We stepped into pastures where chickens were grazing freely, chasing bugs through tall grass, living in rhythm with the land. No confinement. No shortcuts. Just nature doing what it does best.
From there, we drove through orchards of olives, almonds, and walnuts, each row filled with vibrant cover crops. It wasn’t just farming, it felt like a living, breathing system. Above us, hawks and owls patrolled the skies, naturally managing the rodent population. Everything had a role. Everything was connected.
And that’s the thing you can’t fully explain until you feel it, there’s a peace out there that doesn’t exist in the rush of everyday life. No traffic. No noise. Just clarity.
I left that day feeling grounded… and honestly, already looking forward to going back.
Experiences like this are why we believe so deeply in connecting people to farms. When you see it firsthand, it changes how you think about food. It’s no longer just something you buy, it’s something you understand.
This week, we brought back a selection of their Regenerative Organic products, pasture-raised eggs, almonds, almond butter, and olive oil, all grown and produced with that same level of care and intention.
