When I signed up for the Eco Farm Conference, I thought I'd be inspired by the farming, ranching and education. All of that was super inspiring but I was even more inspired by the desire to create community.
I learned about stewardship and the importance of treating the ground we walk on and eat on with respect, as if we want it to be here for future generations, The themes of the event was agro, ecological and regenerative, but the song was togetherness.
We discussed ways to repair the soil and they shared methods and strategies but through these pillars we also developed community and relationships. Synergies that would help find the answers to today's and tomorrow's problems.
Every year is different for them with changing climates and product demand. It's tough to hit the moving target as a farmer or rancher, but they love it so much that they can't imagine doing anything else.
As I left the conference, all I could think about was how alike we are to soil. Good vs bad biology. Working together and working apart to withstand conditions and pests. To create a better environment not just for our species but for every species that participates in this delicate dance.
