One pound of Rhode Island apples.
Rhode Island's signature apple is the Rhode Island Greening, a tart, large, green-skinned apple originating in Middletown around 1650, that serves as the state fruit. It is an heirloom variety known for its excellent baking qualities, especially in pies, due to its firm, juicy, and tart flesh that softens but doesn't turn mushy when cooked. The apple also stores well and can be eaten fresh, used for cider, or dried.
